First Place

The Love of Music
and the Old Homesteads

by Carole Reimold
Etowah, NC

We love the old Bluegrass music, that is why we moved here. The old homes are just beautiful. This was a photo of a building that I had taken and then printed onto my fabric.

Purple fabric – Purple mountains – Mountain music – I see harmony in these fabrics. Been wanting to place my banjo on a quilted creation. This seemed the right time. Got my dulcimer & guitar in there as well. Right many patches, too!

2015 Symposium Raffle Quilt

The Symposium raffle quilt was on display at the show. It was designed by Joanne Shafer as an adaptation of the Delectable Mountains block, using the computer program, EQ7. The fabrics were purchased at Beginnings Quilt Shop in Hendersonville, NC, and a shop in Burnsville, NC, which is no longer in business. Joanne Shafer pieced the outer field of mountains. The center pictorial of our Blue Ridge Mountains was created by Georgia Bonesteel, using her Grid Grip paper and her landscape strip piecing technique. The machine quilting was done by Peggy McCaffrey and Pat Leitch, owners of Hummingbird Quilting. The pillow topper piece was created by Georgia Bonesteel and is part of the ensemble. The quilt was entered in the Western North Carolina Quilt Show in June 2014 and earned a Blue Ribbon.

Tickets are available for $1 each or 6 for $5 from guild members and will be available at the quilt show. The winner will be drawn on May 31, 2015, at the conclusion of Symposium.
