    Program: Demystifying Thread

Diane Henry, former Handi Quilter International Educator, certified Superior Threadologist, and accomplished custom long-arm quilter, will share her knowledge and insights of using various types and sizes of threads to get the effect you want on your quilts when using a domestic sewing machine or long-arm machine. Topics will include preparing your machine for success; needle and batting selection; adjusting tension; and the many choices of threads on the market today.

Diane Henry has been working with fabric since her grandmother taught her how to hand piece her first nine-patch block at age four. A blue-ribbon winning hand quilter, she discovered machine quilting in the late 1990’s and has never looked back.

Diane loves sharing her passion for machine quilting with others around the world. She works with quilting groups and shops leading classes for beginners and advanced quilters. She also organizes workshops and conducts lectures, classes on-line and demonstrations at quilt shows on topics ranging from hand quilting, free motion machine quilting, and supporting Pro-Stitcher owners and Pro-Stitcher Designer users.

All members, guests, and curious quilters are invited to attend guild meetings. The business meetings starts promptly at 10:00 am. For a special treat arrive 30 minutes early to shop the "rehome" table for quilting treasures!

The official social butterflies, i.e. Social Committee chairpersons, great all attendees as they arrive. All are invited to attend lunch after the meeting. Reservations for lunch, at a local restaurant, may be made at the meeting. Those attending are responsible for purchasing their own lunch.

Join Diane Henry via Zoom from your own sewing space while using a familiar domestic sewing machine to experiment and learn how making sample stitch-outs can help you:

    • build your free motion skills,
    • boost the visual impact of your quilting designs, and
    • increase your confidence to choose what thread and designs to use on your project.

Diane will discuss tension, thread types, and how to troubleshoot for successful use of various threads.  She will also teach you a step-by-step approach for more creative free motion quilting. Some familiarity with free motion quilting is helpful but not necessary.  The class is suitable for all experience levels from beginner to advanced.

Program: 7 Steps to Making Your Next Quilt Your Best

Kathleen is a member of the Western North Carolina Quilters Guild and an experienced quilt show judge who is committed to helping quilters achieve their best work in every quilt.

Do you begin every quilt thinking, "This one is going to be perfect?" And then one day, you realize it's not? And you feel disappointed?

Bring one of those "not perfect" quilts to this meeting (small is good), and use it to plan a series of steps to help the NEXT quilt be closer to your goals. Also bring a notebook to write down your plan! It will be fun!

All members, guests, and curious quilters are invited to attend guild meetings. The business meetings starts promptly at 10:00 am. For a special treat arrive 30 minutes early to shop the "rehome" table for quilting treasures!
